Famous for its charming streets, historic buildings, and vibrant wine culture, this small town is the perfect getaway for travelers looking to explore authentic Spanish heritage and savor world-class wines.

Wine and Legacy: A Glimpse into the Past

Haro’s roots stretch back to Roman times, evolving into a vital center of wine production in the 19th century. Today, its old town blends centuries-old plazas and churches with legendary wineries—known locally as “bodegas”—that have shaped the area’s reputation as the capital of Rioja wine.

When to Go: Timing Your Visit

While Haro welcomes visitors year-round, the best time to visit is late spring to early autumn. The June “Batalla del Vino” (Wine Battle) is a unique cultural festival, and autumn offers striking vineyard landscapes during the grape harvest.

What is the Batalla del Vino?

The Batalla del Vino is a lively festival held every June, where locals and visitors alike engage in a friendly wine fight. Participants head to the hills at sunrise and soak each other in red wine—an unforgettable celebration you won’t find anywhere else.
