Discover one of Switzerland's natural jewels and take the opportunity to travel on the famous steam train with this Aare Gorge + Brienz Rothorn Train Day Trip.
Aare Gorge + Brienz Rothorn Train Day Trip
We'll meet at 9 am at the monumental arch in front of Lucerne's train station. From there we'll travel by minibus to Lungern, considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in central Switzerland.
After a short stop in this picturesque town, the minibus will continue to Aareschlucht, the Aare Gorge. Here, we'll follow a 1.4 km hiking route to get to know this Swiss natural wonder in detail. As we'll see, it's an amazing gorge in which the Aare River carves out narrow gorges in the limestone rock.
When we reach the end of the gorge, we'll take a train to the car park. From there, we'll continue the route by minibus to the town of Brienz, a beautiful town on the shores of Lake Brienzersee where we'll take a walking tour to discover its charming streets.
Following on, we'll go to its railway station to board the famous Brienz Rothorn steam train, one of the most famous locomotives in Switzerland! During a 1-hour journey, we'll enjoy excellent panoramic views of the Bernese Alps and the surrounding lakes. The train journey will end at the top of Mount Rothorn Kulm, at an altitude of 2350 metres.
You'll have 1 hour 30 minutes of free time at the top of the mountain. Then, we'll take the train back to Brienz, where you'll have 1 hour free, which you can use for a walk around the Brienzersee lake, or even in a swim if the weather is good.
Finally, we'll return by minibus to the starting point in Lucerne, arriving between 7 and 8 pm.
