Alcazaba & Roman Theatre Free Tour
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Crystal Pyramid, where we'll start this free walking tour of Málaga's Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre. Ready to immerse yourself in Málaga's history?
First, we'll begin our visit at the Roman Theatre, located at the foot of the Alcazaba, where you'll see the different parts of the theatre, including the stands, or cavea.
Next, we'll step inside the Alcazaba of Málaga, located just behind the theatre, on the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro. Once inside this palace-fortress, we'll make our way through the Torre de la Bóveda Vaída (Vaulted Tower) and the Puerta de las Columnas (Gate of the Columns), two of the complex's most impressive defensive features.
Our tour will then continue at the Torre del Cristo, one of the Alcazaba's historic watchtowers, before stepping into the Patio de Armas and its Hispano-Andalusian gardens. Here, we'll take a moment to explore the peaceful courtyards and gardens before heading to a viewpoint overlooking Málaga, where we'll enjoy scenic views of the city.
We'll continue discovering the fortress's defensive architecture at the Torre Barbacana, also known as the Torre de la Vela, before entering the more refined areas of the complex. From here, we'll wander through the Patios de los Palacios, the palace courtyards, and discover the remains of the Taifa Palace, which reveal the Alcazaba's transformation from military fortress to royal residence.
Finally, we'll reach the Nasrid Palace, the highlight of our visit, where we'll admire the elegant architecture and decorative details characteristic of Islamic palatial design. After exploring these historic spaces, we'll conclude our tour after 1.5 hours.
